1. Yes, although some supermarkets close at 10pm. It is also possible to do grocery shopping online: http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp?bmUID=1286718186942
2. You will usually rent a student room in a hall of residence or on campus. Living with a family is a popular choice for international students on short holidays but not for students enrolled on undergraduate degree courses.
